Keep the money and download free protection

My Norton Antivirus Protection is due to expire next month. I have a good friend who is just using a free antivirus protection and I was wondering, what is the difference between free antivirus protection and one you pay a yearly subscription for? Also what do you recommend and why?

Well, they say this is the season for getting a cold, unfortunately everyday is cold season for your computer and that is why no matter what anti-virus protection you choose, it is a MUST! However, we do recommend one over the other and I will explain the differences as to why one may be superior over another.
When you buy a year subscription and the software from Norton, MacAfee etc., you're in fact buying a whole package. The package will include: Anti-virus protection, Spyware protection, Anti-spam protection, Firewall protection, free updates, tech support and other little features.
When you download free anti-virus software usually all you get is Anti-virus protection and the free updates (pretty simple right?). What you need not to forget is that there are also free versions of Anti-spam products, Spyware protection etc. If you're willing to spend the time you can obtain all the great benefits of a paid product for free.
